Economic Continuity
Your economy belongs to you
Section titled “Your economy belongs to you”When a merchant builds a Drop economy on SWIM — pricing their offers in Drops, building buyer loyalty, accumulating MBO history — they are building something real. Economic Continuity is the principle that guarantees they keep it.
If a merchant ever leaves SWIM, they don’t lose their history. Their MBO records, their fulfillment track record, their buyer relationships — none of that belongs to SWIM. The merchant built it. The merchant keeps it. SWIM’s job is to be infrastructure, not a hostage-taker.
Why platform lock-in is a structural problem
Section titled “Why platform lock-in is a structural problem”Platform lock-in isn’t just inconvenient — it’s a mechanism of control. When a merchant’s economy is trapped inside a proprietary system, the platform can raise fees, change terms, suppress visibility, or simply shut down a merchant’s account. The merchant has no recourse because they built on land they don’t own.
The history of e-commerce is full of merchants who spent years building a customer base on a platform, only to lose it when the platform changed its algorithm, increased its take rate, or decided their category was a competitive threat. Economic Continuity is a direct response to that pattern.
What SWIM does differently
Section titled “What SWIM does differently”SWIM’s architecture is designed so that merchant data — offer history, Drop transaction records, buyer interactions — is exportable and portable. No artificial lock-in, no proprietary formats designed to make leaving painful.
In practice this means: merchant IDs are stable, transaction records are exportable, and no feature is built in a way that makes migration from SWIM structurally punishing. If SWIM ever stops serving a merchant’s needs, they should be able to take their history and go. That’s not a threat to SWIM’s business — it’s the only kind of infrastructure relationship worth having.
What a merchant can take with them: their complete customer contact list, their full order history and fulfillment records in standard exportable formats, their Drop transaction ledger, and their complete MBO history. Revenue data is denominated in USD — the currency your buyers paid in, not in Drops. Your records are readable without SWIM.
